What is my IP Address?

Although computers on the same network can not have the same IP address, using a router will allow all of your network to share one outside IP address provided to you by your ISP.  When is it important to know what your external IP address is though? 

If you have a VPS or Dedicated Server with EarthLink you will most likely want to enable a firewall to protect your data from attackers but don’t want to block yourself out completely.  Knowing your external IP address will allow you to enable exceptions to your firewall rules that allow only you to remote desktop, SSH or FTP to your server.
